Boys Basketball: Positive signs for Dexter despite tough loss to Saline

The Dexter boys’ basketball team stayed within range all night against host Saline on Tuesday night but could never catch up in a 47-39 loss in an SEC Red Division game.

Still, there are positive signs for the Dreadnaughts.

“We’re starting to trend in the proper direction, although it hasn’t resulted in a win recently,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “We like the things we are seeing on both ends of the floor, and if we continue in the direction we are headed the results will come.”

Saline led 12-5 after the first quarter and 20-16 at halftime. The Dreadnaughts outscored the Hornets 11-10 in the third quarter to pull within three points but Saline ended the game with a 17-12 run in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Jack DeMerell led Dexter with 16 points and 4 rebounds. Seniors Evan Haroldson had 13 points and 7 rebounds, and senior AJ Vaughn added 8 points.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Dreadnaughts, who welcome Skyline to town on Thursday night.
