Competitive Cheer: Dreadnaughts finish sixth at tough D-2 District

The Dexter competitive cheer team headed to Adrian High School on Saturday to compete in the District 8 Division 2 state tournament. The top four teams advanced to Saturday’s Regional. “It was really fun,” said Dexter senior Makayla Gerlach. “We did have some tough competition, but we did really well with only having 12 out on the mat!”

The District field included several state powerhouses, including Gibraltar Carlson (second in the state last year) and Southgate Anderson (third in the state last year).

The Dreadnaughts landed in sixth place out of 13 teams. Dexter started with 215.7 points in round one, 197.78 in round two and 285.1 points in the third round for a 698.58 total.

Carlson was the winner – and it wasn’t even close. The Marauders finished with a District-best 781.16 points. South Lyon East took second with 742.92 points, Southgate was third with 735.54 points and Trenton took fourth with 734.92 points.

Riverview was fifth with 715.54 points. New Boston Huron was seventh (674.12) as Downriver teams took five of the top seven spots.
