Getaway Cabins | Columbiaville

About 1 Hour, 25 Minutes from Ann Arbor

Set about an hour and a half north of Ann Arbor, Getaway’s Columbiaville location is nicknamed The Thumb, aptly named after the region. This outpost provides a true up-north woodland feel, with 45 modern cabins situated on 153 private acres. This expansive site offers several nature trails, which wind through groves of old-growth trees, around wetlands, and along the river. The cabins are fully equipped with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay, including a kitchenette, heating and air conditioning, a full bathroom, and comfortable beds with a dramatic glass window letting nature in. Each cabin has its own private outdoor space, including a fire pit, a charcoal grill, and a picnic table, allowing guests to enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding woods. Getaway purposefully does not have WiFi, so you can fully disconnect from the hustle and bustle of life; plus, the cell service is sketchy and they even have a cell phone lockbox if you’d prefer to be completely screen-free during your stay!

 

Tree Vistas | Ionia

About 1 Hour, 40 Minutes from Ann Arbor

Tree Vistas is a relatively new treehouse community in Ionia, less than 2 hours from Ann Arbor. At this time, they have one treehouse fully built out — Winding Springs — with plans for more treehouses in the future! Comfortably sleeping six, Winding Springs is a luxurious getaway suspended 13 feet above ground. It features a primary suite, a loft with bunk beds, a full bathroom, a kitchenette, and a living area with massive windows overlooking the surrounding forest. Situated in the countryside just outside the charming beach town of South HavenThe Fields of Michigan offers “a return to life’s simple pleasures.” This glamping spot has a collection of spacious canvas tents, each containing its own bathroom and shower, luxe linens, electricity, a fire pit, a tea/coffee maker, a desk, and a patio area. During the fall and winter, warm up with the electric fireplace, and during the warmer months, use the portable air conditioner to stay cool. Amenities include vintage bicycles, s’mores kits on demand, and a complimentary breakfast each morning. Guests can relax and unwind in the beautiful natural setting of the property, which includes a pond, walking trails, a spa, and a communal fire pit for gathering around in the evening. Oak Grove Resort | Holland

About 2 Hours, 30 Minutes from Ann Arbor

Oak Grove Resort is a family-owned campground in Holland, just 2.5 hours from Ann Arbor. In addition to full hookup RV sites, Oak Grove offers modern cabins, rustic cabins, and “The Barn” guest house that can accommodate up to 18 guests. The resort also features a heated pool, a hot tub, a dog park, a gift and candy store, limited free WiFi, laundry, and bike rentals. The one- and two-room rustic cabins are ideal for couples or families, with the former offering accommodations for four guests and the latter for six guests. Both cabin types come equipped with a double bed, bunk beds, a TV, a mini-fridge, a microwave, AC, and a small heater. Outside, guests can enjoy a picnic table, a fire pit, a charcoal grill, and rockers on the front porch. Please note that linens are not provided for the rustic cabins, and pets and smoking are not allowed in or around them. Each yurt is spacious and well-appointed, with comfortable beds, a dining table, and in some, a small kitchenette with a sink and mini-fridge. Keep in mind the Basic Yurt has no running water, while the Deluxe Yurt has a kitchen and bathroom. The yurts are also equipped with heating and air conditioning, so guests can enjoy a comfortable stay no matter the weather. Outside the yurt, guests can relax with outdoor seating and a fire pit, and enjoy views of the surrounding forest. This all-season resort also offers many amenities for guests to enjoy, including a lodge, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and one of the newest water amenities, “Just-In Timberlake,” a 1-acre lake nestled in the woods with a water trampoline, a kids’ splash pad, and a sandy beach. The location of Timber Ridge Resort is also ideal, just a short drive from the many attractions of Traverse City, such as the beaches of Lake Michigan, the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and the area’s many local wineries and breweries.

 

Wild Cherry Resort Yurts | Lake Leelanau

About 4 Hours from Ann Arbor

For a more rustic experience, consider booking a couple of nights at one of the yurts at Wild Cherry Resort. The property has a variety of accommodations, including yurts, cabins, tent sites and RV sites. Keep in mind there is no water or electricity at the yurt or cabin sites, but the yurts are situated in a wooded setting, just a short walk from the bathroom, tent shower, and potable water source. Each yurt contains a small table with two chairs, a dresser, a queen-sized bed, and a twin-sized day bed, and each site has a fire pit, a picnic table and a gas grill. Be sure to bring your own bedding and towels, if you would like to use the tent shower during your stay! Wild Cherry Resort is situated in the heart of Leelanau Peninsula’s wine country, not far from Traverse City, Suttons Bay, and other charming beach towns in Northern Michigan.

 

Rocky Top Farms | Ellsworth

About 4 Hours from Ann Arbor

Rocky Top Farms is located in the beautiful drumlin hills in northwestern Antrim County, home to the “Cherry Capital of the World,” as the region produces more than 75 percent of the world’s tart cherries!
