Track & Field: Dexter “scoops up” impressive performance at Allen Park (SEE PHOTO GALLERY)

The Dexter track and field teams headed to Allen Park on Saturday to compete in the fun-filled Allen Park Co-Ed Relays that may or may not have involved ice cream. It was a perfect day for a track meet and the athletes were clearly enjoying themselves while competing against teams from all over southeastern Michigan.

The meet mixes up the boys and girls teams in a relay format that is meant to be fun – and it certainly was fun.

The Dreadnaughts had plenty of strong performances from both the boys and girls teams. In the girls’ meet, Dexter finished second out of 15 teams with 47.6 points. Oxford took first place with 64.5 while Woodhaven was third (42) and Lake Orion fourth (41.6).

Dexter finished fourth with 56 points in the boys’ meet. Lake Orion took first (82) with Oxford second (79.5) and Grosse Pointe South third (65).

The meet finished with the 4×400 “Brain Freeze Relay” where runners eat a pint of ice cream and run 400 meters. The race even came with rules – All 16 together eating 1/4 quart vanilla. Must finish all in a bowl, spoon provided if desired. You lose it out of the bowl to the ground results in a 40-second penalty. If you vomit Ice Cream your team is “DQed” – get it?
