Baseball: Skyline defeats Huron for “city championship trophy”

The Skyline varsity baseball team came away with the ‘city championship trophy’ by taking the series against Huron 2-1

In game 1, Ryan Gensheimer took the mound, he gave up 6 runs on seven hits over 4 and 2/3 innings, striking out ten. Mason Johnson came in in relief, pitching 1 1/3 inning allowing no hits or runs.

The Eagles were down early with Huron taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning battling back to tie it 4-4 in the top of the 5th inning. Huron came back willing 6-4 with a couple of defensive miscues to seal the victory.

Gensheimer, Ian Decz, Johnson, Landry Jobe and Lewis Mc Cammon all had one hit to lead the offense.

In game 2, the Eagles walked away with a 7-1 win.  Andrew Walworth pitched a complete game with efficiency, allowing 5 hits and one run, striking out 5 and walking one.

The Eagles offense was led by sophomore Donovan Hill, who hit a 3 run home run in the third inning, putting the Eagles up 3-1 and never looking back.

They put up 3 more in the 4th inning on hits by Lewis McCammon, Jobe and Eli Bishar

In the final game 3 of the series, the Eagles put up 7 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take the lead 8-4.

Landry Jobe started on the mound pitching 5 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out 7.

Jackson Armstrong came in in relief following Ian Decz. Armstrong got the victory shutting down the River Rats at the plate, allowing 0 hits and 0 runs in 1 and one third inning.

The Eagle bats were led by Gensheimer, with two doubles and 2 RBI’s as well as Pierce Van Oyen with a single in the big 6th inning which scored two runs.

Saturday’s double header against Livonia Churchill resulted in two close games but unfortunately losses.

In Game 1 loss 4-1, Lewis McCammon started on the mound, pitching two innings, allowing 4 runs on seven hits and walking one. Nate Werns and Ian Deca pitched in relief, three innings and two innings respectively.

The Eagles offense was led by seniors Patrick Lafferty, Mason Johnson and Charlie Andrew-Vaughn. Landry Jobe and Pierce Van Oyen also collected hits.

Game 2 was a close contest, but ultimately the Eagles were on the short end of the 7-6 game.

On the mound, Pierce Van Oyen started the game, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs, striking out one and walking one.

Nehith Kumar pitched a solid 4 innings in relief, allowing 5 hits, 3 earned runs and striking out 2.

Eli Bishar finished the final 2 innings allowing 2 hits and no runs.

Lafferty and McCammon lead the offense with 2 hits along with doubles by Johnson and Decz.  The Eagles scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t push home the runs to close it out
