Track & Field: Dreadnaughts run strong at SEC Red Conference championships

Dexter hosted the SEC Red Conference Championships on Friday at Al Ritt Stadium. Rain had stayed away for most of the day to showcase the best athletes in the conference. Saline won the boys division with Ann Arbor Huron in second, and Ann Arbor Skyline third. Dexter finished the day in seventh. For the girls, Pioneer was the top team, followed by Huron, and Saline. Dexter finished fourth.

Leading the girls team were some top performances from the field events. In the Pole Vault, Raiden Kipfmiller was Conference Champion with a jump of 11’ 6”. Followed by a 2-way tie for fourth with teammates Debbie McCoy, and Bethany Simons each going 9’ 0”. Madelyn Simons finished in seventh at 9’ 0” as the fourth Dexter placer in the event. In the throws, Lily Trinkle was the Champion in the Discus with the top throw of 94’ 6”, and Lily Burns was fifth with a toss of 88’ 7”. Burns was also the top Dexter Shot Putter, taking third place with a put of 34’ 10” and Kera Root also placed, taking seventh with a mark of 30’ 3.75”.

Dexter continued to score in the field with High Jumpers Tia Schults taking a fifth place spot with a jump of 5’ 4” and fellow jumper Simone Kasischke right behind in sixth at 4’8”. Rounding out the field event scoring, Larkin Pham was fourth in the long jump, going 14’ 9”.

Over on the track, in the 800m run Lillian Mitchell finished eighth with a time of 2:27.89, and Annabel O’Haver was sixth in the 1600m, crossing the finish line at 5:19.35. Dexter’s 4x800m relay team also placed, taking a fifth spot with the team of Addison Bruckman, Mitchell, O’Haver, and Maddie Rokke-Smith with a time of 9:47.78.

For the boys, the Dreadnaughts had success in the distance races.

In the 800m run, Brandon Anderson ran 2:00.38, good enough to take seventh place, followed by Owen Ackerman finishing fifth in the 1600m with a finish of 4:28.60. Caleb Snyder finished fourth in the longest distance race of the day, the 3200m with a time of 9:54.36. Dexter Hurdler Josiah Hayter ran the 110 High Hurdles with a time of 17.09, finishing eighth, and Dexter had two relay teams score. First the 4×800 relay with the team of Ackerman, Anderson, Kaden Jensen, and Rylan Teddy crossed the finish with a time of 8:17.88, good enough for fourth, and in the last race of the day, Dexter’s 4×400 finished fifth with Ackerman, and Anderson again, along with Alex Homan, Julian Linebaugh timed in at 4:28.60.

Field events had contributions starting with the High Jump where Kyle Gerharter finished eighth jumping 5’ 6”. And in the Pole Vault, Dexter had four placing, starting with runner-up Clark Sheldon jumping 14’ 0”. Then a 4th-5th-6th finish from Kaden Korcek at 13’ 6”, Benjamin Sackman at 13’ 0” and Barrett Keller also at 13’ 0”.

Next up for the Dreads is the MHSAA Region 4 Championships at Grand Ledge this Friday.
