Last Tuesday, the Skyline women’s soccer teams hosted a RISE game. RISE is a national nonprofit program that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations. Through partnerships and programs, RISE inspires leaders in sports to create positive change on matters of race and equality. RISE’s vision is to create a nation unified through sports committed to racial equity and social justice. The team has shown hard work and commitment to the RISE program, completing six programs over the past three years. This game was designated to showcase the program and the girls’ efforts to use sports to become agents of change and champions of social justice.
The game, against crosstown rival Huron, was a competitive match, with neither team taking the lead in the first half. Things heated up in the second half, and Jade Thompson scored on a header that found the back of the net for a 1-0 Eagles victory.
On Thursday, the team traveled to Bedford to take on the Kicking Mules. The game was a 5-0 win with goals from Aurora Dillaway Brater (2), Lily Carlson, Ava DeBenedet, and Casey Vigo.
Friday saw the Eagles take on the Saline Hornets in a game rescheduled from the previous week. The game was very competitive, with each team having a few chances to score. Good defense and solid goaltending led to a 0-0 tie.
The Eagles play at Monroe on Thursday.
