Track & Field: Dreadnaughts run in Regional 4 Championships

Dexter traveled to Grand Ledge on Friday to compete in the Regional 4 Championships. 15 schools made up the field, and on the boys side Brighton was first with 138 points, followed by Battle Creek Lakeview with 119.5, and Holt with 69. The Dexter boys finished sixth with 38.

Host school Grand Ledge won the girls team competition with a score of 114, followed by Howell with 111, and Brighton at third with 79. Dexter girls took fifth with 45 points.

Kicking off the day were the field events, with Dexter placing 3 in the boys Pole Vault. Clark Sheldon was the Regional Champion with a jump of 14’ 6” and qualifying for the State Championships. Barrett Keller also hit the state qualifying mark with his fourth place finish at 13’ 3”. Kaden Korcek placed sixth with a jump of 12’ 3”.

Brandon Anderson led the way on the track for the Dreadnaughts, as runner up in the 800m run, clocking in at 1:56.20. Anderson hit the State Championship standard as well, becoming the third boy to qualify. Other athletes placing on the day were Alex Hoffman in the 400m, taking eighth with a time of 53.21, and Owen Ackerman in the 1600m running a time of 4:28.18, good enough to take fourth.

The boys 4x800m relay was fifth with the team of Ackerman, Kaden Jensen, Rylan Teddy, and Anderson finishing the race with a time of 8:24.37.

In the girls competition, the Lady Dreads were dominant in the field events, starting with the Girls Pole Vault. Dexter scored in 5 of the top 8 places, and leading the way was freshman Raiden Kipfmiller’s Regional Championship jump of 11’ 9”, qualifying her for the State Championships. Runner up Mikala Sposito was the next to qualify for the Championships with a jump 10’ 3”, and teammate Debbie McCoy’s third place finish of 10’ 3” qualified her as well. Bethany Simons was sixth at 9’ 3” and Madelyn Simons was seventh at 9’ 3”.

The throwing events had two placers, with Lily Burns finishing in sixth place with a throw of 34’ 10.5”. Later on it was another Lily, Lily Trinkle in the Discus, also with a sixth place of her own going 86’ 4”.

Dexter placed in two events on the track with Annabel O’Haver taking fourth place in the 1600m run, finishing with a time of 5:19.12. O’Haver was also on the 4x800m relay that also finished fourth with a time of 9:48.62, made up of the team of O’Haver, Addison Bruckman, Maddie Rokke-Smith, and Lilian Mitchell.

Dexter will wrap up it’s final home meet on May 30th., hosting the Larry Steeb Meet of Champions.
