Boys Track: Braxton Brann helps lead Huron to fourth-place finish in State Finals

The Huron boys’ track & field team ran to a fourth-place finish on June 3 at the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals in Rockford. The River Rats crossed the finish line with 30 points, just six behind third-place Rockford. St. Joseph (40.75) edged Clinton Chippewa Valley (38) for the state title.

Skyline finished with two points.

Huron’s Braxton Brann won his prelims with a time of 21.34 in the 200 meters. The senior then went out and went a PR 21.12 to win the finals for the River Rats.

Brann returned to the track where he took first in the 110 hurdles with a PR time of 13.77. Sophomore Ashton Brann was 19th in the 300 hurdles in 42.02. 

In the high jump, Huron junior Andrew Harding went a PR 6-7 to land in first place for the River Rats. Pioneer junior Sebastian Cohen was 17th (6-1).

Skyline junior Henry Shaieb went 49.48 to take 11th in the 400.

In the 1600 meters, Pioneer junior Eric Overdier was 12th in 4:22.96; Skyline senior Nicolas Fry was 14th in 4:24.16; Pioneer senior Thomas Kerber was 15th in 4:26.16; Skyline senior Christopher Van Lent was 17th in 4:27.27 and Skyline junior Mason Jett was 26th in 4:40.02.

Skyline junior Luke Suliman was 14th in the 3200 meters.

Huron’s team of Georgio Pitts, Torrence Greene, Kinley Poole and Marcus Williams was ninth in the 4×100 relay in 42.93. Huron’s team of Jackson Hayward, Chase Lockhart, Brann and Brann was 12th in the 4×400 relay in 3:24.45.

In the 4×800 relay, the Skyline team of Van Lent, Jett, Aidan Hale and Fry was seventh in 7:56.52 and the Pioneer team of Thomas Kerber, Vincent Peterson Sand, Liam Bredeweg and Eric Overdier was 13th in 7:57.95.
