The Skyline girls’ lacrosse team’s outstanding 2023 season came to an end in the D2 MHSSA lacrosse state semifinals last Wednesday in Fenton. The Eagles fell 19-9 to Detroit Country Day, who went on to win the State Championship.
The Yellowjackets attacked the Eagles early in the game and jumped to a quick lead by scoring on their first three possessions. The Eagles adjusted to the speed and quick attacks and did not back down. Skyline climbed their way back into the game to a 4-3 deficit. The Yellowjackets and Eagles exchanged goals and by halftime the Yellowjackets were up 11-7. This score held for about six minutes into the second half.
During the second half of the game, Detroit Country Day controlled the tempo of the game and the Eagles only scored two goals in the second half. Penalties plagued the Eagles, including playing a player down for the final 8 minutes of the game. The Yellowjackets took advantage and continued their offensive attack and poured in another 8 goals in the half to win the game 19-9. It was a tough loss but the Eagles should be proud of their fight throughout the game.

The Eagles Regional Championship win and State Championship Final Four appearance and was the best season in school history!
