Department of Public Works Job Opening

The City of Dexter is seeking a full-time Department of Public Works (DPW) Worker, to be a part of the City’s Public Services Team. Specific responsibilities include snow plowing, park and playground maintenance, brush removal, street and sidewalk repair, and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment in support of these activities. A Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six months, is required. Must have a high school diploma or GED.

Wage is $20.06 – 26.18/hour DOQ plus a comprehensive benefit package. This position is covered by agreement with the Teamsters State, County and Municipal Workers Local 214.  The City is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival Workshops for Children and Young Adults

The Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival will host the Children’s Painting Workshops on Wednesday, August 16th in Monument Park. The sessions are separated by age bracket and include: elementary school age, middle school age, and high school age and above.

Dexter Farmers Market

The summer season for the Dexter Farmers Market is in full swing. Join us on Saturdays from 8am – 1pm under the covered pavilion in historic downtown Dexter on Alpine St (next to the library). This year, the Tuesday market is being held from June-September, 11 am – 3 pm.

Support our local farmers and producers and visit the market and enjoy fresh seasonal produce, local meats, eggs, baked goods, flowers, honeys & jams, coffee, handmade crafts, and live music!

Main Street Bridge Project Update from Washtenaw County Road Commission

From WCRC June 8, 2023 Update:

Heads up City of Dexter! The preventative maintenance work taking place on the Main St Bridge, over Mill Creek, between Dexter-Chelsea Rd and Jeffords St is going smoothly.

The concrete repairs have been completed on the bridge approach. The concrete will now cure for a minimum of 28 days and restrictions will be lifted.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will continue to send out updates as the project progresses.

Hawker/Peddler Permit

Hawker/Peddler Permits have been issued to the following organizations:

A hawker/peddler permit has been issued to Ecoshield Pest Solutions to go door-to-door. They plan to be operating between the hours of 10 am to 6 pm through September 15, 2023.

Public Hearing Notice


The following is a public hearing notice for the City of Dexter:

City Council will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 7 pm. at City Hall, 3515 Broad St., Dexter, MI 48130 and via the Zoom online meeting platform. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive public input on an ordinance to continue to lease City owned property located at 8050 Main to Melissa McClure, Hotel Hickman for a two-year period.
