Drop-In Summer Story Time at the Library
Monday & Thursday mornings at 10:30 am

Toddlers and Preschoolers

Drop-In Summer Story Time for toddlers and preschoolers will start on Monday, June 26 and run through Thursday, August 3. We will be meeting outside on the Library terrace adjoining Mill Creek Park North, so make sure you bring along chairs or blankets to sit on.

Story Time will be held on Mondays and repeated on Thursdays at 10:30 am. Books and activities are geared for toddlers and preschoolers. Each program lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Our story times will include picture, pop-up and interactive books, flannel-board stories, songs, puppets, finger plays and other activities that encourage a love of reading.

* In the event of inclement weather please check with the Library for the status of Story Time.

 

Drummunity

Join Lori Fithian for Drummunity! She’ll bring the drums – YOU get to play them! The whole family gets to drum, sing and dance in this fun and energizing program. Lori brings all kinds of drums and percussion instruments, so the whole community can make music together! Registration is not required.

 

Bluey Bash
Ages 5 and under

Children ages 5 and under, along with their caregivers, are invited to a special Bluey Bash at the Library – for real life! Take a journey to Australia and explore a variety of stations with crafts and activities inspired by everyone’s favorite blue heeler and her family. Registration is not required.

 

Drop-in Suncatcher Craft

Lego Club

Kids in grades K through 8 are invited to spend an afternoon making their own Lego creations while visiting with old friends and making new ones.  Everyone is welcome – Legos will be provided by the Library.  Registration is not required.

 

Mad Science: Radical Robots
Wednesday, July 12

Registration required and begins Wednesday, June 21

In this Radical Robots workshop, learn how to build your very own robot hand to take home in this class that focuses on technology. Explore how robots can be used to make our lives easier. Experiment with robots that can do some extraordinary tasks, infrared robots, robotic arms and even soccer playing robots. Registration is required for this independent program as the presenter does enforce a limit to the class size.

 

Club Create Book Club

Club Create is an independent book club for first and second graders. Each month Ms. Krista will read longer picture books centered on a theme and the group will participate in activities and crafts related to the theme. The July theme is Mythical Creatures. Registration is required.

 

Big Truck and Emergency Vehicle Day

The Dexter District Library will host a large variety of trucks and emergency vehicles for children and adults of all ages to experience, rain or shine. The parking lot will be closed during this event to allow freedom to browse, tour and talk to the owners and operators of the wonderful machines that make our lives easier and safer. Bring your camera – there will be plenty of photo opportunities with the vehicles and special costumed characters, Elephant and Piggie. Registration is not required.

 

Wings of Fire Party

If you missed the Wings of Fire party this spring, you’re in luck! This is another chance to celebrate your favorite dragon series with crafts, games, and activities. Anyone who loves dragons is welcome to drop in and join the fun! Registration is not required.

 

Baffling Bill the Magician

Bring your favorite stuffed friend to the library for a day of fun. We’ll begin the day with a story and then move on to a variety of activities and crafts you can enjoy together. Registration is not required.

 

Super Stories Book Club

This is a story and craft program for kids transitioning out of story time and into book club. Adults should attend this program with their children. Each month Miss Ruth will read books related to a theme and then the kids will do a theme related craft or activity. The July theme is Oceans. Registration is required.

 

Science Alive – Live Animal program

Come see how Science Alive brings the study of science to life by presenting a personalized, interactive experience with an array of live critters. A Science Alive biologist, along with each animal visits each child individually for an “up close and personal” animal encounter. Registration is required for this independent program as the presenter does enforce a limit to the class size.

 

All Star Readers Book Club

All Star Readers is an independent book club for third and fourth graders.  Each month we will play an icebreaker game, have a book discussion, and do an activity related to the book we discuss. Books will be available to pick up at the library after you register. Our July book is Squished by Megan Wagner Lloyd. Registration is required.

 

Kevin Devine Outdoor Concert

Enchanted Forest Crafts

Kids of all ages are invited to stop by the Library and watch The Mitchells vs. The Machines (2021) on the big screen while enjoying a free bag of popcorn. Registration is not required. 

After Katie Mitchell is accepted to the university of her dreams, her father, Rick, decides that it will only be fitting for the whole family to drive her to school and have an adventure. However, their plans are ruined when technology—phones, appliances, and personal robots, among others—stages a revolution against humanity. They now find themselves with two malfunctioning robots working to save the world from destruction.
