AAPS: Scarlett Middle School’s staff kickball team named 2023 A2 Rec & Ed Kickball League Champions

Congratulations to Scarlett Middle School’s staff kickball team which has been named the 2023 A2 Rec & Ed Kickball League Champions!

“Scarlett has a family-like atmosphere,” says Scarlett Design & Business Educationt teacher Leslie Baugh. “So much so, that when the school year ends, we choose to still be together. A huge shout out to Ann Arbor Rec and Ed for having provided us a great opportunity to do so. In the seasons that several of us tenured teachers have played, this has been a very special year. This year we were undefeated!”

She says this year the team had to use relief pitchers after pitcher Laura Morning was injured in game 3. Stepping up were Anna Gonzalez, Katrina Dowdy, and Rolando Herrera. First base was shared by Zach Depres, and Marquise Johnson. “Clutch players” were Larry Williams, Amy Devrteuil, twins TreVon and DaVon Johnson, and Kayla VanEgmond.

Thanking all supporters, Baugh added: “Lots of love to the league’s umpire, Mark Comstock—aka Mr. Kickball—for his fairness, enthusiasm, and patience. He truly made this year and all of the prior years an absolute delight. To quote the great Yogi Berra: ‘When you’re part of a team, you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them. You protect them through good and bad, because they’d do the same for you.’”

“That’s a philosophy we, at Scarlett, have adopted as well.”

The team’s official name is the Scarlett Roadrunners “The BestTeam.”

“We did this so when other teams were asked, “Who do you play tonight?”  they’d have to respond, `The Best Team’,” explains Baugh.
