DEXTER — Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) and Reps. Jennifer Conlin (D-Ann Arbor Twp.) and Carrie Rheingans(D-Ann Arbor) joined local leaders on Thursday in Dexter to celebrate the passage of the “Make It In Michigan” budget and the $8.5 million the lawmakers were able to bring home for the development of a multi-generation community center in Dexter.
While providing a permanent home for the Dexter Senior Center, this new Multigenerational Community Center will also provide students with extended learning opportunities outside of the school day and year along with activities serving our youngest children, our school-aged children, young adults, adults and seniors throughout the Dexter community.
“Dexter community members of all ages will benefit from this new community center, and I’m glad Representatives Conlin, Rheingans and I could help secure this funding,” said Sen. Shink. “Having a space like this will bolster the health and well-being of our residents and better connect our entire community, from our seniors to our kids and families.”
“As a working mom, I understand the importance of investing in our communities and our children at every step,” said Rep. Rheingans. “I was so happy to play a role in expanding organizations like the Dexter senior center to provide programs and activities that will benefit every Dexter-area resident year-round.”

Conlin. “The Governor’s Make It In Michigan initiative is important in that it highlights the many contributions of our state’s community organizations and businesses, and I am excited to see how those in the Dexter area will benefit from the expansion of the Senior and Community Center.”
Representatives from the Dexter Senior Center and Dexter Community Schools were also at today’s event and championed the benefits of the new center to foster quality community connections and benefit the generations they serve. They also applauded local lawmakers’ advocacy efforts to deliver this big win among a multitude of local investments to benefit Washtenaw County.
