Cross Country Roundup: Skyline, Dexter run at Holly/Duane Raffin Festival

Both the Skyline and Dexter girls’ cross country teams landed in the top five at the competitive Holly/Duane Raffin Festival at Springfield Oaks County Park on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Romeo crossed the finish line in first place with 94 points, just four points ahead of runner-up Oxford. Davison was third (123) followed by Skyline with 141 points and Dexter with 152 points. Grand Blanc was sixth (175) and Livonia Stevenson seventh (177).

Allison Mayer cracked the top 10 in the race. The Skyline senior placed ninth with a time of 19 minutes, 25.6 seconds. Skyline freshman Irie Scrase had a strong race with her 18th place finish time of 20:42.3 and junior Ayla Balazer was 28th in 21:07.4. Freshman Becca vanLent was 31st (21:11.1), senior Alexandria Mason was 55th (22:07.7) and sophomore Grace Hopkins was 100th (24:14.7).

Dexter was once again led by Alena Blumberg. The junior was 10th in 19:27.3 followed by fellow juniors Annabel O’Haver, who ran 15th in 20:09.5, and Olivia Shaieb, who was 40th in 21:30.9. Freshman Kodie Snyder was 41st (21:39.3), senior Ella Mitchell was 46th (21:45.1) and senior Kate Varitek was 48th (21:50.9).

Boys

The Dexter team finished seventh in the boys’ race at the Holly/Duane Raffin Festival with 211 points. Oxford was first with 83 points followed by Romeo (109) and Troy (133). Skyline placed 19th with 432 points.

Dexter’s Brandon Anderson had another strong run. The senior was fourth overall in 15:56.1. Juniors Caleb Snyder (41st, 17:23.), Julian Linebaugh (43rd, 17:24.7) and Elijah Smith (60th, 17:49.2) were next for Dexter. Senior Andrew Gafford was 72nd (17:57.8), senior Jack McCalla was 81st (18:08.3) and sophomore Cole Doty was 100th (18:33.0).

Senior Luke Suliman led the Eagles with his fifth-place finish time of 16:01.9.
