LaJoyce Brown named director of admissions at EMU

YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University appointed LaJoyce Brown as director of admissions. Under the leadership of Vice President of Enrollment Management Katie Condon-Martin, Brown will oversee recruitment and admission processes for all first-year, transfer, graduate, and international students.

“LaJoyce Brown has an impressive track record in college admissions,” said Condon-Martin. “She has a legacy of driving innovation and is dedicated to developing partnerships that increase college access. We are excited to see her help shape the future of EMU.”

Before coming to EMU, Brown served in multiple leadership roles in higher education, including associate director for Undergraduate Recruitment and Outreach and interim director of Admissions and new Student Orientation at Wayne State University. Most recently, she served as the senior associate director for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Wayne State, where she developed and implemented strategic recruitment plans to enroll first-year and transfer students, utilized data to drive programming and partnership efforts, and managed the university’s outreach efforts, among other priorities. She’s also held positions in admissions counseling and as a faculty member.

It is an exciting time to be an Eagle,” said Brown. “Eastern Michigan University has a rich history of providing highly ranked academic programs, among the nation’s best. The beautiful campus has state-of-the-art facilities, newly renovated residence halls, and new construction underway for apartments.”

Some of Brown’s immediate goals include fostering teamwork and building upon existing relationships to exemplify the university’s mission and core values. In the long term, she plans to work with the admissions team to collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and execute new student recruitment strategies that align with the university’s mission to attract and enroll a diverse student population.

“I am honored and excited to be selected to serve as the new director of admissions,” said Brown. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such great administrators, staff, faculty, and students at EMU.”

Brown, who received her doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Wayne State University, is an active member of many organizations, including Detroit College Access Network Community Hub Advisory Board, Wayne-Westland School District College & Career Readiness Advisory Board, and ACT State Organization Executive Council, to name a few. Brown’s start date is Monday, Oct. 9.
