AAPS Video: 2023 Pioneer Grad Lawrence Robuste shines at Special Olympics World Games

Ann Arbor Public Schools special education teacher John Conley assembled a montage showcasing Pioneer High School 2023 graduate Lawrence Robuste at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Germany in June. The video highlights Lawrence’s memorable experiences competing at the global event.

“While he did not medal, Lawrence did beat his personal record (PR) each time he raced, which was very impressive.,” says Conley. “His highest finish was 4th place, which is pretty darn good!”

“In the 100-meter, he set his personal record with the Pioneer track team at 13.08. His final time at the World Games was 12.84—which is incredible. In the 200-meter, he set his personal record with the Pioneer track team at 26.52. His final time at the World Games was 25.50, which is really incredible. His 4X100 team time was really good as well; they finished fifth overall.”

According to Conley, Lawrence was up against more seasoned track competitors at the Special Olympics.

“By improving each race he proved to his coaches that he was their best track athlete by far,” said Conley. “They loved having him.”

Lawrence is now enrolled in the Washtenaw Intermediate School District’s young adult program.
