Dexter football: Dreadnaughts dominate Skyline to improve to 4-1 in SEC

After dropping its first two games of the season (to Livonia Franklin and undefeated Saline), the Dexter football team continued to stockpile wins in dominating fashion. The Dreadnaughts completely manhandled Skyline 55-0 on Friday night in an SEC Red contest.

Dexter improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the league and have scored over 50 points in three consecutive games. They also have pitched three shutouts in the last four games.

Dexter faces Monroe on Friday. The Trojans are 3-3 on the season and have lost two straight, to Pioneer last Friday and Saline on Sept. 22.

The Dreadnaughts led 21-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at halftime.

Dexter’s defense was in Skyline’s backfield all night long. The Eagles managed just one first down the whole game and had negative 18 total yards.

Junior Owen Wondrash was all over the field with 9 tackles, 3 for loss and 2 fumble recoveries including one for a touchdown.  Sophomore Mateo Kipke had 4 tackles, all in Skyline’s backfield.  Seniors Noah Pitts and Davis Taylor both had 3 tackles for loss. Junior Jack Sayler added an interception for the dominant Dexter defense.

The offense was equally as impressive.

Sophomore quarterback Cooper Arnedt was 7-9 passing for 143 yards with five touchdowns. He also had three carries for 19 yards.

Junior running back Ronny Johnson had 15 carries for 132 yards and a TD. Mason McAllister had 8 yards rushing including a TD.

Jaiden Juback had two catches, both for scores. Cole Novara and Holden Niemi each had two catches with a TD. Johnson caught a 51-yard pass for a TD.
