ANN ARBOR – The State of Michigan’s Reconnect program is expanding its reach to help more students pursue their dreams through a college education.
As of today, the minimum age to qualify for the State of Michigan’s Reconnect program has been lowered from 25 to 21 for a limited time. Changes in the scholarship program also now allow existing students to apply.
At Washtenaw Community College (WCC), 3,471 students have enrolled through Michigan Reconnect over a three-year period.
This scholarship covers in-district tuition and fees at community colleges across Michigan after other scholarships and forms of aid have been applied.
With WCC’s tuition already among the lowest in the state, at $99 per credit for in-district students, the Michigan Reconnect scholarship makes college at Washtenaw even more affordable.
The scholarship is designed to help people who have been out of school for some time resume their education and earn an associate’s degree or professional certificate to advance their careers to improve their quality of life. Obstacles like cost, transportation and schedule demands often thwart a person’s intentions of returning to school. Financial aid, like Michigan Reconnect, and support services from colleges like WCC help remove barriers.
Applicants aged 21-24 must fill out a federal financial aid (FAFSA) form, apply to Michigan Reconnect, and be enrolled at WCC and begin coursework by the Fall 2024 semester. Applicants aged 25+ must fill out a federal financial aid (FAFSA) form, apply to Michigan Reconnect, and be enrolled at WCC.
