Girls CC Roundup: Eagles land in State Finals after third place at Regionals; Dexter runs sixth 

The Eagles are heading to MLS.

The Skyline girls’ cross country team finished third at the very competitive Holly Regional at Springfield Oaks last weekend. The Eagles landed with 96 points and will compete on Saturday at MIS in the Division 1 State Finals. Brighton took first with 38 points, followed by Davison with 71 points.

Grand Blanc was fourth (113), Hartland fifth (118) and Dexter sixth (120). 

Skyline had three runners finish in the top 10: Senior Allison Mayer was fifth (19:23.09), freshman Irie Scrase was eighth (19:38.62) and freshman Becca van Lent was ninth (19:40.77). Junior Alya Balazer was 17th (20:23.7) and senior Aileen Bachrens was 58th (22:24.12). Skyline also had strong runs from freshman Katie Yuan (59th, 22:26.93) and senior Alexandria Mason (60th, 22:29.45).

The Dreadnaughts finished their strong season as a team with a strong race at Regionals. Junior Alena Blumberg will return to the State Finals after running 10th in 19:47.41 and she will have a teammate with her this time. Dexter junior Addison Bruckman ran 20th (20:26.52) and also earned a spot at Saturday’s State Finals.

Dexter freshman Kodie Snyder was 25th (20:40.46), sophomore Amelia Cribbins was 30th (21:01.65), sophomore Hannah Bougher was 38th (21:29.32), junior Annabel O’Haver was 45th (21:55.45) and sophomore Avery Hoeft was 51st (22:03.67). 

Huron

The Huron girls’ cross country team finished seventh at the Regional at Willow Metropark. The River Rats crossed the finish line with 149 points. Northville took first with 54 points, followed by Salem and Farmington.

Senior Sonya Shelgikar will run at the State Finals after finishing sixth in the race with a time of 19:17.8. Junior Lucinda Paliani also earned a ticket to MIS with her 15th place finish time of 19:39.9. Also running well for Huron at Regionals were sophomore Leena Shelgikar (30th, 20:33.2), senior Sarah Conley (45th, 21:26.2), sophomore Tanishka Tewari (53rd, 21:43.6), junior Aiko Motohara (62nd, 22:11.9) and sophomore Nishka Kalantry (63rd, 22:16.7).
