Ann Arbor Senior Center events for November

The Ann Arbor Senior Center offers a range of programs, services and social activities to empower and engage older adults in healthy and meaningful ways. Our goal is to provide programs and services that promote fitness and activity, reduce the risk of adverse health events, and provide recreational and cultural activities that can improve physical stamina and maintain cognitive functioning. We strive to make healthy activities fun while providing access to wellness information and support for older people and their families. We are proud to be a part of this community and we would be honored to have you join us. ​Programs and services for all ages are offered at the Ann Arbor Senior Center, and also in Burns Park. ​​​​

Thrive Through Transitions: Your Journey to Lifelong Well-Being
Wednesday, Nov. 8, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Presented by Care Management by Natalie. This workshop will hi​ghlight ways to embrace change with confidence and empower yourself and your loved ones. We will explore topics such as a recipe for healthy aging, coordinated healthcare, building meaningful connections, and preparing for life’s challenges.​ Located at the Ann Arbor Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Avenue. NEW! Legacy Portrait Pop-Up
Monday, Nov. 13, 3-5:30 p.m. When was the last time you had a professional photo taken? Many of us will say years or decades. Photos of individuals and families are a valuable part of a family’s heritage and identity. Legacy portraits are important because they help preserve family history, create emotional connections, facilitate storytelling, honor ancestors, and provide cultural and historical insights. The term “legacy portrait” is flexible, encompassing various forms of artistic representation designed to celebrate and remember individuals or groups and the impact they’ve had on their communities, families, or society as a whole. Join Ursula Hoppe Photography for a private, 15-minute shoot to capture a memorable moment in time. Studio will be setup in the privacy of the conference room at the Ann Arbor Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Ave. Call 734.794.6250 to reserve your time. Service is open to the public; membership not required. Cost is $45, paid directly to the photographer. Additional products such as wall art and prints available for purchase.

NEW! Tech Workshop: Smartphone 101
Monday, Nov. 13-Dec. 11. Join James Giordani of Clear Computing for this 5-week course that will teach you how to get the most out of your smartphone. James earned his master’s in social work at the University of Michigan focusing on older adult tech literacy; learning and discovering ways to use technology to better the quality of living and extend the independence of older adults. Classes are held at the Ann Arbor Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Ave. The $65 cost will be payable to the presenters at the time of the class. Preregistration required by calling 734.794.6250.​

NEW! Introduction to Nature Journaling
Tuesday, Nov. 28, Dec. 5, and Dec. 12, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Join Eleva Potter of City of Ann Arbor Natural Area Preservation as she helps unfold the joy of nature journaling. If you enjoy art and nature, this is the class for you! We will be using creative writing, painting, and nature printing to connect to the natural world and record our scientific observations in a nature journal. Located at the Ann Arbor Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Ave. Preregistration required by calling 734.794.6250. Free for members; $2 for nonmembers.

NEW! Scrabble
Wednesdays starting Nov. 1, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. What has 100 tiles, 225 squares, a multi-colored board and millions of fans of all ages, backgrounds, and locales? Calling all Scrabble lovers! Easy to teach, easy to learn and fun to play: this group is for people who like a little friendly competition and riotous conversation. All experience levels are welcome, so if you like the occasional game of Scrabble, then join us! Friends encouraged. Located at 1320 Baldwin Ave. Call 734.794.6250. NEW! Artist’s Open Studio
Thursdays starting Nov. 2, 9:30-11 a.m. Calling all artists and craft enthusiasts! Join us for a weekly open studio where we invite you to bring your own projects and art equipment to work on in a creative, and supportive environment. Don’t have your hands on a project or equipment? Not to worry – we have a collection of materials and craft projects that you can choose from. Friends encouraged. Please call ahead of time to learn what materials we have on hand. November Drive-Through
Wednesday, Nov. 8, noon-1 p.m. Join the Ann Arbor Senior Center and Atria Senior Living​ ​for a “Friendsgiving with Atria” drive-through event. Senior geared goodie bags will be given out to patrons that sign up; limited spots available. Come enjoy snacks, pick up information and socialize!
