Swimming: Local teams compete in fast SEC Red League meet 

The Pioneers dominated their SEC foes on Nov. 3-4 as one of the best swimming leagues in the state met at Huron High School for the annual Red Division League Meet. The Pioneers, the three-time defending state champions, racked up 687 points with Saline finishing a distant second with 392 points.

Skyline, ranked second in Division 2, finished with 373 points to touch third while Dexter had 260 points and finished fourth as both the Eagles and Dreadnaughts had a pool full of strong swims.

Huron was fifth (181.5), followed by Bedford (167), Monroe (105) and Lincoln (85.5).

Pioneer had some impressive swims to reach 687 points and it started with sweeping the relays. The medley relay team of Bridgette Kamara, Yan Yee Adler, Reese Heidenreich and Meg Pinkerton took first in 1:46.96; the 200 free relay team of Pinkerton, Ursula Ott, Katelyn Van Ryn and Stella Chapman took first in 1:35.95; and the 400 free relay team of Van Ryn, Chapman, Ott and Jayla Kuzak took first in 3:29.31.     

Adler won the 200 IM in 2:07.40 and was second in the 500 free in 5:02.73; Van Ryn sprinted to a win in the 50 free in 23.83 and also won the 100 free in 51.84; and Chapman won the butterfly in 54.01 and the breaststroke in 1:01.85. Ott was second in the 100 free (51.86) and the breaststroke (1:03.55).

Kuzak was third in the 200 free (1:56.94) and the 500 free (5:11.97) and Cecilia Cook was fourth (5:22.14) in the 500 free and sixth in the fly (1:01.24) for the Pioneers. Kamara was fifth in the IM (2:14.88) and third in the backstroke (1:00.15) followed by teammate Rachel Brewbaker (1:00.91). Heidenreich was third in the IM (2:11.29) and fourth in the breaststroke (1:06.4). Amani Sanogo was fourth in the 200 free (1:58.8) followed by teammates Ava Griffith (2:00.79) and Harper Feyen (2:01.38). Pinkerton was third in the 50 free (24.59). Aubrey Baumhover was sixth (25.74) and Allison Yadmark was seventh (25.74) in the 50 free for Pioneer.

In diving, Pioneer’s Grace Daly was third (374.35) and teammate Arianna Pagel was fourth (362.55).

Skyline freshman Adrienne Schadler touched first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.54 and also won the 500 free in 4:58.96. Skyline senior Shannen Lee was first in the backstroke in 57.91 and fourth in the 50 free (24.65).    

Skyline’s Sofia Torres was fourth in the IM (2:13.99), Allie Deininger was second in the 50 free (24.52) and fourth in the 100 free (52.94), Julianna Peoples was fifth in the fly (1:00.98) and seventh in the 200 free, Anna Williams was seventh in the 500 free (5:33.01), and Sophia Nielsen was sixth in the breaststroke (1:10.66) and eighth in the IM (2:20.46). Violet Schrag was fifth in diving with 318.5 points.   

Huron’s Sawako Sakamoto was fourth in the butterfly (59.85) and seventh in the backstroke (1:01.63), Catherine Huang was eighth in the 500 free (5:33.10), Juna Sakamoto was seventh in the 200 IM (2:16.12).  

The Dreadnaughts also clocked in some impressive performances. 

Dexter’s 200 medley relay team of Kayce McCallister, Delaney Parker, Harper Brown and Grace McClellan was third in 1:52.74. The 200 free relay team of McCallister, Parker, Brown, and Emma Bishop finished fourth in 1:43.7 while the 400 free relay team of Bishop, Isabel Martinez, Rebekah Murillo, and McClellan was fifth in 4:00.22.

McCallister finished fifth in the 50 Free (25.15) and seventh in the backstroke (1:01.25). Parker was fifth in the breaststroke (1:09.33) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:15.85). Brown was eighth in the breastroke (1:12.21) and Bishop was eighth in the 200 free in 2:05.55.
