AAPS: Ann Arbor NAACP recognizes over 200 scholars at Freedom Fund Dinner

The Ann Arbor Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People recognized 238 Ann Arbor Public Schools high school students at their annual Freedom Fund Dinner. The students were recognized for maintaining a 3.2 grade point average or above during the 2022-23 school year.

The overall theme of this year’s Freedom Fund Dinner was Thriving Together, with Pioneer’s Kevin Hudson and Skyline’s Jade Flores sharing their thoughts what thriving together means to them.

Ann Arbor NAACP President William Hampton says the students did a good job in sharing that we get more accomplished when we come together towards one common goal. He says recognizing the students’ academic achievements is important. “A lot of these students never get recognized by anybody that’s number one,” Hampton says. “Number two, we’re here to support their ambitions, their aspirations and they need to know that.”
