The Dexter girls’ basketball team wasted little time proving that they have a very formidable offense and scoring can come from different players and from all over the floor. The Dreadnaughts opened the season with an impressive 40-29 win over Brighton last week and improved to 2-0 on the season with a 49-40 win over Saginaw on Saturday.
In the opener against Brighton, Dexter scored 18 points in the first quarter with six different players reaching the score sheet. They also knocked down three triples in that first quarter to take an 18-7 lead over the Bulldogs. Dexter led 26-15 at halftime and 32-25 after three quarters.
The Dreadnaughts had four players score five or more points. Alena Blumberg scored in every quarter and led the way with 17 points. Heidi Fuchs had seven points and Addison Chase and Alyssa Gullekson each scored five points.
Dexter played Saturday against Saginaw in the Arbor Prep Ice Breaker Invite and again came out firing on the offensive end. The Dreads led 12-9 after one quarter and went on a 16-3 run in the second quarter to take a 28-12 lead at halftime. Dexter outscored Saginaw 15-6 in the third quarter.
Blumberg had another big offensive showing with 19 points, including three triples for the game and nine points in the third quarter. Gullekson hit a pair of triples and scored 11 points and Chase also knocked down two threes and finished with eight points. Kendall Cabana had five points.
The Dreadnaughts will open SEC play at 7 p.m. on Friday at Lincoln.
