Swimming: Dexter swims past Huron in SEC dual-meet 

The Dexter boys’ swimming and diving team raced past visiting Huron 109-77 on Thursday in an SEC dual-meet between two exceptional programs.

Dexter started the meet with a win in the medley relay. The team of Jude Smith, Lucas Coy, Anthony Kopinski and Owen Ragnes touched first in 1:46.25. Huron’s team of Franek Orlowski, Camp Streeter, Kyle Smith and Ethan Yung took second in 1:46.87.

Huron’s Kal Bunnell won the 200 free in 1:52.15 with Dexter’s Owen Dauw second (1:55.34) and teammate Dylan O’Connor third (1:56.57).

Kopinski won the IM for the Dreadnaughts with a time of 2:07.14. Huron took second and third with Streeter (2:16.09) and Christian Grudzinski (2:17.27). 

Dexter’s Matthew Resende picked up first-place points for the Dreads with his winning time of 23.63 in the 50 free. Huron’s Graham Baker was second (23.71) and Dexter’s Owen Ragnes was third (24.04).  

Dexter went one-two in diving with Felix Davis first (158.15 points) and David Kull second (153.25). Huron’s Matisse Fields was third (153.15).

Resende, Dexter’s talented senior swimmer, returned to the winner’s circle when he won the 100 butterfly in 57.0. Huron took second-third with Smith (59.42) and Yung (1:00.48).

Dexter’s Jude Smith won the 100 free in 52.10. Huron’s Orlowski was second in 52.13 and Dexter’s Ragnes was third in 53.12.

Dexter took the top two spots in the 500 free with O’Connor taking first in 5:09.55 and Dauw finishing a close second in 5:11.6. Huron’s Kal Bunnell was third (5:14.45) and Luke Bunnell was fourth (5:37.95).

Dexter’s foursome of Resende, Eric Smaby, Steven Merz and Ragnes was first in the 200 free relay in 1:35.69. Huron’s team of Grudzinski, Jack Humphries, Yung and Luke Bunnell took second in 1:40.02.

The Dreadnaughts went one-two in the backstroke with Kopinski, only a freshman, taking first with a D2 state-cut time of 57.16. Jude Smith was second (58.85) and Huron’s Orlowski third (59.49).

Huron swept the top three spots in the breaststroke with Streeter first (1:07.96), Kyle Smith second (1:08.17) and Grudzinski third (1:09.56).

Dexter took first in the 400 free relay as the team of Resende, O’Connor, Kopinski and Jude Smith touched with a winning time of 3:31.92.

Dexter returns to the pool on Jan. 4 with a home meet against Bedford.
