Boys Basketball: Missed shots, turnovers cost Dexter in league game at Saline

The Dexter boys’ basketball team hit the road on Tuesday to take on host Saline in an SEC Red matchup. The Dreadnaughts were within striking distance at halftime but a big third quarter by the home team proved to be too much to overcome.

Saline outscored Dexter 26-12 in the third quarter and went on to a 67-44 win. Saline led 16-7 after the first quarter and 31-21 at halftime.

We battled, had a great game plan, but we missed too many easy ones and turned the ball over too many times throughout the game to keep it close,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton.

But there were still plenty of positive signs that show Dexter is heading in the right direction.

“We like the direction we are heading, and we’re getting there,” Rushton said. “We just need to continue to have multiple efforts throughout each possession and value the ball for a full 32 minute game and we may see some different outcomes.”

Dexter did have eight players reach the scorebook.

Jack DeMerell led the Dreadnaughts with 11 points. Ben Murphy played a great all around game and added 8 points. Scott Smith had seven points, Haden Harm scored six and Sammy Koch added five.

Weather permitting, Dexter will host Skyline at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
