Swimming: Pioneer cruises past Monroe in SEC dual-meet

The Pioneer boys’ swimming and diving team opened 2024 with an easy 145-40 win over Monroe in an SEC dual-meet on Jan. 4 at Pioneer. The Pioneers won all three relays and every individual event against the Trojans.

The Pioneer team of Charles Knoepp, Henry Baumhover, Edward Zhang and Brighton Han won the opening medley relay in 1:41.89. The team of Isaac Alemeida, Christopher Leuciuc, Cam Kline and Jensen Wood took second in 1:43.14. Pioneer also touched third in 1:51.51.

Pioneer swept the 200 freestyle with Baumhover first (1:44.14), Wood second (1:48.31) and Oleksandr Gladunin third (1:56.22).

Pioneer also swept the 200 IM with Leuciuc in first (2:01.24), Knoepp second (2:02.99) and Han third (2:07.56).

In the 50 free, Zhang was first (22.01), Tobias Tang second (24.29), and Shahmir Nasser third (25.27).

Pioneer’s Gabriel Mercier won diving with 335.55 points.

It was another sweep in the butterfly with Leuciuc first (53.98), Kline second (54.68) and Isaac Almeida third (56.76).

Luke Silva won the 100 free (52.91) and Kai Whitacre was third (57.81).

In the 500 free, Zhang took first in 4:42.65 with Henry Colvig second (5:07.48) and Isak Woods third (5:27.47).  

Pioneer’s foursome of Silva, Coen Boutell, Trevon Chappell and Woods won the 200 free relay in 1:41.61. The team of Vaughn Boutell, Gladunin, Whitacre and Elijah Almeida was second in 1:41.73.  

Wood won the backstroke in 55.52 with Almeida second (56.54) and Kline third (57.87).

Baumhover won the breaststroke in 1:01.25 with Han second (1:05.59) and Colvig third (1:08.23).

Pioneer’s team of Knoepp, Leuciuc, Baumhover and Han won the 400 free relay in 3:19.2.
