Girls Basketball: Blumberg’s 32 points help lead Dreads over Monroe

Six different players scored in the first quarter to help give the Dexter girls’ basketball team a commanding 18-9 lead over Monroe in the opening period and the Dreadnaughts cruised to a 55-33 win over the Trojans in an SEC game on Friday night.

Alena Blumberg scored eight points in that first quarter and then added nine in the second quarter, 10 in the third and five more in the fourth to finish with a game-high 32 points for the Dreadnaughts.

But it was far from a one player show for Dexter as nine players reached the scoring ledger.

Harper Backus scored six, Heidi Fuchs had four points and Addison Streetman and Alyssa Gullekson each scored three in the win.

Dexter led 33-24 at halftime and 46-26 after three quarters.

Dexter hosts Pioneer on Tuesday.
