Boys Basketball: Pioneer bounces Monroe for easy SEC win

The Pioneer boys’ basketball team is making a statement every time they step on the floor and the Pioneers are getting louder with each passing game. After an easy 64-30 win over Dexter early in the week, the Pioneers knocked off Monroe 70-26 on Friday as they continue to win in impressive fashion.

“This is the most complete game we’ve played this year,” said Pioneer Coach Rich Marion. “We were active defensively and used that to create offense. It was the hardest we pushed the ball in transition and the ball movement was crisp which led to taking good shots and knocking them down. We also finished at the rim through contact. Tyler Mutinda was especially good tonight at the rim.”

The Pioneers led 21-11 after one quarter and 42-16 at halftime.

Mutinda finished with a game-high 25 points. Nelson Sompa had 14 points while Morgan Lyle, Jordan Harrison and Nathan Freisthler each scored seven for Pioneer.

Pioneer plays at Bedford on Tuesday and hosts Lincoln on Friday.
