Swimming: Pioneer edges Saline in SEC Red dual-meet

The Pioneer boys’ swimming and diving team faced a strong challenge from Saline on Feb. 1 and the Pioneers came away with a hard-fought 96-90 win over the Hornets in an SEC Red matchup.

Pioneer opened the meet with a win in the medley relay. The team of Jensen Wood, Edward Zhang, Henry Baumhover and Christopher Leuciuc took first in 1:36.46.

Zhang, only a sophomore, won the 200 free in 1:43.64. Cam Kline was third in 1:47.30. Baumhover was third in the 200 IM in 1:56.77.

Leuciuc sprinted to a win in the 50 free with a time of 22.06. Wood was third in 22.72.

Senior Gabriel Mercier won diving with 309.6 points.

Baumhover was second in the fly in 51.04 and Leuciuc was second in the 100 free in 48.48. 

Pioneer went one-two in the 500 free with Kline first (4:52.49) and Charles Knoepp second (4:54.08).

The Pioneers won the 200 free relay as the team of Edward Zhang, Baumhover, Leuciuc and Kline took first in 1:28.64.

Pioneer went one-two in the backstroke with Wood first (54.54) and Isaac Almeida second (54.87). Zhang won the breaststroke in 58.84.

Pioneer’s 400 free relay team of Kline, Knoepp, Henry Colvig and Wood took second in 3:23.12.
