Boys Basketball: Skyline shoots down Dexter in SEC Red matchup

The Skyline boys’ basketball team knocked down 12 triples in a 72-58 win over visiting Dexter on Tuesday night in an SEC Red matchup. Despite the hot shooting from the Eagles, the Dreadnaughts managed to stay in the game for most of the contest.

Skyline led 15-13 after one quarter and 33-29 at halftime. The Eagles outscored the Dreadnaughts 17-15 in the third quarter and then 22-14 in the final period to put the game away.

“It was Skyline’s night as it seemed like they couldn’t miss from deep,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “I’m not sure what they shot from 3, but it had to be 60-70 percent. Most nights we live with giving up some of the shots they were taking.”

Skyline had four players reach double-figures in the win. Junior Jake Rademacher led the way with 22 points, including four triples in the second half. Braylan Brown hit two three-pointers and finished with 14 points. Junior Ben Solomon had 11 points and junior Noah Silkworth had 10 points for the Eagles.

Dexter was led by Jack Demerell and Scott Smith, who each had 14 points. Garrett Sharp scored 12 points and Will Simpson had six points for the Dreadnaughts.

The Dreadnaughts were coming off a tough loss on Friday night at Monroe.

Dexter scored just one point in the first quarter but the Trojans only managed four in a low-scoring opening period. The offense picked up in the second quarter and Monroe led 15-13 at halftime. Dexter came out strong in the second half and outscored Monroe 17-14 to take a 30-29 lead into the final quarter.

But the Trojans outscored the Dreads 14-8 in the final period for a 43-38 win.

“I thought we did enough defensively to win this game, we just struggled shooting the ball,” Rushton said. “We missed several layups and free throws throughout the game, especially in the first half. We made a three to tie with 20 seconds left, but it was taken away by our player stepping out of bounds…that’s just the way the night went for us.”

Ben Murphy led Dexter with 10 points. Smith had eight points and DeMerell and Simpson each scored six.
