The Guild of Artists & Artisans with Gutman Gallery Announce Lost + Found Exhibition

ANN ARBOR – The Guild of Artists & Artisans (The Guild) announces its latest exhibition, Lost + Found, an all media exhibition showcasing work that incorporates found objects or recycled materials, literally or metaphorically. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on Friday, March 15 from 4p-6p and will be on display through April 27, 2024.

Lost + Found was juried by guest juror, Claudia Hershman, Detroit-based mixed media artist. Lost + Found features 41 works from 32 talented artists, representing a variety of styles, techniques, and media. The show includes “Biological Clock,” a found object sculpture by Denise Rohde; “Hanger Beast,” a recovered broken clothes hanger, brazed with flame-worked glass elements by David Fischer; and “Tell Me About Sex Grandma,” an altered book with mixed media collage by Carol Morris.

“Losing The Collection” by Sarah Nesbitt includes inventory tags sewn into a pigmented inkjet print. Nesbitt says, “A handful of famous photographers have attempted to bury, burn, or otherwise hide their negatives. To hide/escape from history. Several of these photographers never lived to see their negatives resurface to much historic fanfare and acclaim. The negatives presented in ‘Losing The Collection’ have survived underground only to resurface later- many of which went on to serve a great purpose when recovered.”

Another artist in the show, Judith Bemis, describes her piece “Famished.” as “collage items inside an old silverware box depicting the different manifestations of nutritional deficiency”.

The community is invited to experience the exhibition firsthand at the open house Friday, March 15 from 4p-6p. Attendees will be able to meet some of the artists, enjoy light refreshments from our generous exhibition partners and neighbors at TeaHaus and The People’s Food Co-op, and listen to live music from local musicians, Angelica & Owen. The duo covers a variety of genres from rock and jazz to RnB, exploring an eclectic mix of their favorite music.
