After more than 25 years of service to the City of Ann Arbor, Public Services Area Administrator Brian Steglitz will begin a new position on April 26 as the executive director of the Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA), a wastewater utility in northern Virginia. City Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr. will appoint Sue McCormick as interim public services area administrator while the city searches for a permanent replacement.
McCormick served as the city’s public services area administrator 2001–2011. She went on to serve as the director of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) 2012–2016 and was then appointed as the chief executive officer of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) 2016–2021.
The public services area administrator provides leadership, administrative, budgetary and communications support for five service units, including engineering, public works, systems planning and water resource recovery and water treatment.
“While we will diligently move forward to find a suitable permanent replacement, we are fortunate to have a former City of Ann Arbor public services area administrator and water utility expert who has agreed to serve and lead during this transition,” said City of Ann Arbor Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr.
Pursuant to Section 12:14(b) of the Ann Arbor City Charter and Section 1:101 of the City’s Municipal Code, the city’s public services area administrator shall be appointed by the city administrator with the advice and consent of the City Council. City Council will consider a resolution to appoint McCormick as the interim public services administrator at their May 6 meeting.
