19th Annual Big Hearts for Seniors Presents Big Hearted Stories: Love Stories

ANN ARBOR – U-M Health’s Community Health Services is thrilled to unveil its 19th Annual Big Hearts for Seniors fundraising event, Big Hearted Stories: Love Stories, set to take place on Thursday, May 30, 2024. The event will be held at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre and Michigan League, promising an evening of camaraderie and storytelling in support of six community facing organizations at Michigan Medicine. The program is made possible from the support of sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor University of Michigan Health Advantage.

Heading this year’s affair as the emcee will be Vic Strecher, Ph.D. MPH, a distinguished Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education at the U-M School of Public Health. Renowned bestselling author John U. Bacon will grace the stage as the featured storyteller, along with five other storytellers from the community.

Alfreda Rooks, MPA, Director of Community Health Services emphasized, “Our theme, ‘Big Hearts for Seniors: Love Stories’ underscores our commitment to providing essential services for older adults in Washtenaw County, ensuring their physical, social, and emotional well-being. We’re grateful for the community’s support as we strive to help seniors age with grace, dignity, and the ability to remain in their homes.”

Big Hearts for Seniors stands as a pivotal fundraising event in support of Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels, Housing Bureau for Seniors, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Silver Club Memory Programs, Turner African American Services Council, and Turner Senior Wellness Program.

Tickets are now available for purchase until May 20, 2024. VIP tickets, priced at $100, are “all access” and include parking, entry into the 5:30pm reception with hors d’oeuvres and two drink tickets. General Admission tickets, priced at $35, provide entry to the venue at 6:00pm, and access to the cash bar. Both ticket levels include the 7:00pm performance. Following the storytelling performance, all attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy coffee and engage in conversations with our esteemed storytellers.
Additionally, a silent auction featuring over 100 items will be open for bidding from May 23rd to May 30th. Attendees need not be present at the event to participate in the auction.

Established in 2006, Big Hearts for Seniors (BHS) is an annual fundraising event that benefits six programs within the University of Michigan Health Department of Community Health Services, which provide a variety of mission-critical services to older adults in our community.
