The Dreadnaughts Track & Field team traveled to Ann Arbor to compete against both Ann Arbor Huron and Monroe High School last Tuesday. The Boys team defeated Huron 77 to 60, and Monroe 83 to 54, while the girls split with Dexter defeating Monroe 104 to 33, but coming up short to Huron 75 to 62.
BOYS
Leading off in the field events for the boys was a clean sweep of the Pole Vault, with Clark Sheldon taking first place at 14’ 0”, followed by Benjamin Sackman at 13’ 6”, and Anthony Delarca-Hernandez at 10’ 6”. Dexter Shot Putters placed two, with Cameron Clark taking 2nd with a toss of 43’ 11”, and Cooper Thompson 3rd with 43’ 4”. Two more placed in the High Jump with Kai Reeds’ jump of 5’ 10” earning him 2nd place and Kyle Gerharter taking 3rd at 5’ 8”.
Finishing off the field events, Robert Karageorge was runner up in the Discus, with a throw of 136’ 11”.
The Dreads were busy out on the track, with 3 of their relay teams taking first place. Starting off was the boys 4x100m relay team with Braelin Greuling, Connor Kril, Noah Boyce, and Keaton Murphy-Walstad running 46.18. The 4x200m relay of Noah DePestel, Owen Waters, Kril and Elijah Smith were also champs, crossing the finish line with their time of 1:39.14. The last top relay team was the 4×800, with Caleb Snyder, Julian Linebaugh, Andrew Gafford, and Vaughn Meyer. Their time of 8:18.89 was the best of the day.
Brandon Anderson, and Vaughn Meyer both ran the 800m and the 1600m. Anderson finished first in both races with a 1;57.79 for the 800m, and 4:25.65 in the 1600m. Meyers times of 2:05.06, and 4:30.52 earned him 3rd place in both races respectively.
Another 1-3 finish for Dexter was in the 3200m run. Caleb Snyder was the top runner with his time of 10:12.56, and Sam Gibson in the 3rd spot with 10:20.06. And in the 110 High Hurdles, Francisco Morales-Leverett finished the day in 2nd place with a time of 15.80.
GIRLS
On the Girls side, Thrower Kera Root brought home two first place finishes. Her Discus throw of 100’ 7” was the farthest throw of the day, and then she finished her day by winning the Shot Put with a toss of 33’ 1”. Her teammate Lily Burns was 2nd in the Shot, throwing 32’ 7”.
The Girls Pole Vaulters swept the competition as well with Raiden Kipfmiller winning, clearing 11’ 9” followed by Debbie McCoy at 11’ 6”, and Madelyn Simons in 3rd at 8’ 6”. Kipfmiller and McCoy followed that up with being part of the Dreads that scored out on the track. Kipfmiller took 2nd place in the open 200m dash with a time of 27.61, and she and McCoy were part of the 4×200 relay that took 1st, along with Maddy Church, and Chloe Burns, running 1:52.41.
Dexter took the top spot with another relay, this time it was the Girls version of the 4x100m. The team of Lauren Simpson, Autumn Taylor, Leah Williams and Aspen Taylor ran a time of 55:57.
Other individual racers that saw scoring were Lillian Mitchell winning the 1600m run with a time of 5:28.04, and Amelia Cribbins taking 3rd in the 400m, finishing with 1:04.44. Kate Varitek finished the 800m in 2nd place with a time of 2:28.35, followed by Annabel O’ Haver at 2:29.06 for 3rd. Another sweep, this time in the 3200m run with Hannah Sisson at 12:42.14, Avery Hoeft at 13:10.81, and Addison Streetman at 13:20.83 going 1-2-3.
Next up for Dexter is the Farmington Invitational this Saturday at Farmington High School.
