In Review: Dexter Community Players’ rendition of School House Rock ROCKED!!!

By Natalie Hurst

I was lucky enough to attend Dexter Community Players’ rendition of School House Rock, Junior on opening night, Friday July 12 at Columbus Hall and Banquet Center. This nostalgic show featured favorites such as “A noun is a Person, Place, or Thing” and “Conjunction Junction.”

The cast of children did a wonderful job bringing these classics to life, and a lively audience made the casual atmosphere even more fun. Tom, played by Chase Kulik, had all the charisma of a young Bob Barker, and I’ll “unpack my adjectives” now: the real breakout star was Anna Evanchek, who impressed with her beautiful voice and emotive acting.

I was particularly impressed by the beautiful set and the precise and intricate use of props during the songs.

My favorite song was “The Preamble,” where the cast use sign language to supplement their voices. Interplanet Janet is where the show really took off! And to little Bria Goetz: you’re not just a bill, you’re a star!
