Creative Washtenaw and Partners Announce PowerArt! 2024 Finalists

Ann Arbor– The public have selected the eleven final selections for the PowerArt! 2024 project to be installed on downtown Ann Arbor traffic signal boxes. More than 500 people voted online to make the final selections. The public made its choices from 15 semifinalists selected by a community jury of local art professionals, business owners and community leaders. The jury reviewed 107 artworks submitted by 50 Washtenaw County-based artists, Installations of the final 11 begin in September.

A multiyear project, PowerArt! is displaying artwork by local artists to transform traffic signal boxes into urban canvases from what they were: unsightly spaces covered with graffiti and handbills. In addition to beautifying street level eyesores, a key goal of PowerArt! is to engage local artists and the public in this public art and design project.

PowerArt! is a partnership of Creative Washtenaw, the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority and the City of Ann Arbor Public Art Commission Public. Local public art champions, Larry and Lucie Nisson, are providing additional support for the project. The PowerArt! installations are fun, whimsical and popular with townies, visitors and artists project is a favorite among residents and visitors. Once the PowerArt! project is complete, 42 signal boxes in downtown Ann Arbor will be wrapped.
