Girls Cross Country: Local teams run at SEC Jamboree 1 (see WLAA-D photogallery)

The Pioneer and Saline girls’ cross country teams dominated the SEC Jamboree No. 1 on Tuesday at Willow Metro Park in New Boston.

The Pioneers had three runners land in the top 10 and six in the top 25 to show off strong front-line runners and great depth. Saline had six runners finish in the top 18.

It appears the team scores on Athletic.net were not correct. Our calculations (top six runners) has Saline finishing first with 62 points, 8 better than Pioneer.

Among Pioneer’s top runners was the overall winner, Natasza Dudek, who crossed the finish line and then fell to the ground in exhaustion – and excitement. The freshman has raced in only two events so far this year and has taken first in both (she won the Shepherd John Bruder Classic on Sept. 4 in Pioneer’s first meet of the season).

Dudek was first with a time of 18 minutes, 27.3 seconds, winning comfortably over Saline freshman McKinley Jones (18:39.4). Five freshmen finished among the top eight finishers in the race.

Pioneer junior Hana Boggess was third with a time of 18:50.60 and freshman Sienna Klemmer was sixth in 18:59.6. Sophomore Nina Moore was 16th (20:26.7), junior Bridget Kerber was 21st in 20:55.5, senior Clara Peikert was 23rd in 21:05.5 and senior Lucy Pike was 28th in 21:15.9.

Skyline freshman Lucia Llanes led the Eagles across the finish line. She finished eighth overall with a time of 19:05.2. Sophomore Irie Scrase also had a strong race, finishing 15th in 20:25.8. Two sophomores were next for Skyline – Mara Mocanu (40th, 22:31.2) and Alison Kauffman (56th, 23:32.4). Freshman Elin Tenbrink was 67th (24:09.4).

Huron’s Lucinda Paliani had a strong showing for the River Rats. The senior was 10th in 19:42.2. Two freshmen were next for Huron – Mira Shelgikar was 30th (21:37) and Zoe Bossmann was 34th in 22:11.9. Senior Julieta Turon was 35th in 22:15, freshman Sadie Bohnsack was 49th in 22:48.4 and sophomore Harper Pinto was 59th in 23:36.7.

Dexter also had some impressive runs on the sunny and warm day. Senior Alena Blumberg ran a time of 20:37.1 to finish 19th overall. Freshman Layla Blumberg was 27th in 21:09.5. Other solid showings were run by sophomore Kodie Snyder (31st, 21:49.5), senior Hannah Sisson (36th, 22:16.2), junior Amelia Cribbins (44th, 22:42.3) and sophomore Jillian Lower (48th, 22:46.8).
