The Pioneer girls’ swimming and diving team defeated rival Huron 149-37 in an SEC dual-meet on Sept. 9 at Pioneer HS.
Pioneer took the top three spots in the 200 medley relay. The team of Yan Ling Adler, Ursula Ott, Katelyn Van Ryn and Cecilia Walusek took first in 1:47.61.
Pioneer dominated the 200 free with Van Ryn first (1:57.36), Amani Sanogo second (1:58.68) and Cecilia Cook second (1:58.68). Yes, they tied.
In the 200 IM, Pioneer took the top three spots with Walusek first (2:09.4), Suryn Lee second (2:16.4) and Ava Griffith third (2:19.21). Huron’s Juna Sakamoto was fourth (2:19.76).
Pioneer swept the 50 free with Ott first (24.67), Reese Heidenreich second (24.94) and Jayla Kuzak third (25.85).
Pioneer took the top three spots in diving with Grace Daly first (239.1 points), Arianna Pagel second (233.05) and Lisa Pando Rasia third (199.45).
In the butterfly, Ott took first in 1:00.15, Walusek was second in 1:00.51 and Meg Pinkerton was third in 1:02.84.
It was all Pioneer in the 100 free with Kuzak first (54.77), Sanogo second (55.29) and Maisie Weyhing third (59.08). And Pioneer took the top four spots in the 500 free with Tallulah Beg first (5:14.98), Lee second (5:15.5), Eden Stahlin third (5:47.81) and Erica Griffith fourth (5:52.83). Huron’s Catherine Huang was fifth in 5:52.84.
Pioneer went one-two in the 200 free relay with the team of Heidenreich, Pinkerton, Sanogo and Lee touching first in 1:41.81.
Cook won the backstroke for Pioneer with a time of 1:00.46. Adler was second (1:00.69) and Van Ryn third (1:01.75) for the Pioneers.
The breaststroke was Huron’s best event in the meet. Pioneer’s Heidenreich was first in 1:08.34. Huron’s Sakamoto was second (1:10.83) and teammate Emily Ngo was third (1:19.08).
Pioneer’s team of Ott, Kuzak, Sanogo and Van Ryn won the 400 free relay in 3:39.36.
