Swimming & Diving: Pioneer cruises past Saline in SEC dual-meet

The Pioneer girls’ swimming and diving team faced SEC foe Saline on Wednesday night and didn’t hold back. The Pioneers scored an impressive 145-41 victory over the Hornets to continue their dual-meet dominance.

The Pioneer team of Yan Ling Adler, Ursula Ott, Meg Pinkerton and Katelyn Van Ryn took first in the medley relay with a time of 1:46.19. They also took second with the team of Bridgette Kamara, Tallulah Beg and Jayla Kuzak and Reese Heidenreich who swam in 1:53.44.

Pioneer swept the 200 free with Cecilia Walusek first (1:56.03), Suryn Lee second (1:57.58) and Yahanna Silva Castro third (1:59.13). They also dominated the 200 IM with Ott first (2:07.7), Beg second (2:11.46) and Ava Griffith third (2:19.65).

It was the same story in the 50 free as Pioneer sprinted to the top four places: Van Ryn first (24.43), Pinkerton second (25.09), Heidenreich third (25.26) and Harper Feyen fourth (25.93).

In diving, Pioneer’s Arianna Pagel was second (232 points) and Grace Daly fourth (216.5).

Pioneer rocked the butterfly with Jayla Kuzak first (59.02), Pinkerton second (1:01.66) and Adler third (1:02.76) and the 100 free with Walusek first (53.19), Van Ryn second (53.97) and Amani Sanogo third (55.81).

The Pioneers took the top three spots in the 500 free with Lee first (5:10.86), Beg second (5:16.47) and Griffith third (5:18.31).

In the 200 free relay, Pioneer’s team of Ott, Heidenreich, Pinkerton and Walusek took first in 1:37.92.

In the backstroke, Adler took first in 1:01.58 followed by Elizabeth Kamara (1:03.34) and Bridgette Kamara (1:04.03). Ott won the breaststroke in 1:02.7 followed by Kuzak in second (1:08.86). 

In the 400 relay, Pioneer’s team of Van Ryn, Walusek, Sanogo and Kuzak took first in 3:37.97.
