Golf: Dreadnaughts swing to league title, head to Regionals

Dexter golf coach Greg Palkowski was recently named SEC Coach of the Year in the Red Division after leading the Dreadnaughts to an outstanding league season. But the coach would like to swing all the attention back to his talented players.

“This has been just an incredible 2024 season thus far,” said Palkowski, one of many outstanding coaches and good people Dexter HS has on its roster. “We have had a lot of fun this season and it’s especially nice to see this team smiling, laughing and bonding as a team throughout the entire season.”

Dexter finished off a perfect league season with an 11-0 record in the SEC Conference – which is a very strong conference with some incredible and well-coached teams. The Dreadnaughts then won the SEC Championship at The Hills of Lenawee Golf Club.

“That definitely speaks volumes to this team’s commitment,” Palkowski said of the tournament title. “These kids have heart and passion and focus and dedication, and this is the standard we have set for this program.”

But they couldn’t do it alone.

“The support from the Dexter community, the Dexter athletic department and all my fellow Dexter coaches really shows how we are DREAD STRONG,” he says.

The Dreadnaughts have had a strong season, from the first tee to all the challenges (and bunkers) that have come their way.

“It has been pretty exciting for me being able to watch this team compete, set personal best scoring records and achieve so much,” Palkowski says. “They really have played awesome all season long. We look back at each tournament to see how we can perform better in the next tournament and then work on those details.”

Dexter will tee it up on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at the Coldwater Golf Club in the Regional 10 tournament hosted by Coldwater.
