Gallup Park Bridge Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Planned for Oct. 24

The new Gallup Park Bridge Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, weather permitting, at Gallup Park, 3000 Fuller Road. Ceremony parking is available in the Gallup Park Livery lot (3000 Fuller Road) and Furstenberg Nature Area (2626 Fuller Road). A brief program will take place at the new bridge to celebrate completion of construction and recognize the funding and support, as well as the input from community members, which brought the project to fruition.

“A large project, such as the Gallup Bridge project, cannot be accomplished without the support of so many different entities, including outside funders, and community feedback,” said Ann Arbor Parks & Recreation Manager Josh Landefeld. “This support and feedback were used to help shape project goals and guide the process, which helped us to refine the final design.”

The new Gallup Park Pedestrian and Vehicle Bridge (.jpg image file) has double the space for pedestrians and cyclists, includes overlook spaces at the center of the bridge and maintains the character and rustic charm of the old structure.

The project received funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, allocation in which the community also had input, as well as from Park Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage dollars.

Ann Arbor voters will find the 2025–2044 Park Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage renewal proposal on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot. If passed, the renewed millage would continue funding park system enhancements, repairs and restoration for the next 20 years. The millage renewal proposal remains for 1.10 mills and does not pose an increase; the rate would remain the same as the millage that is expiring this year. Visit parks online for answers to frequently asked questions, to learn about projects and activities funded through the current and past millages and much more.
