Field Hockey: Pioneer faces Huron in Division 1 postseason semifinal

Pioneer and Huron have been on a collision course since the opening faceoff of this year’s Division 1 field hockey state playoffs. And the two state powerhouses will collide in a semifinal game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 23) at Pioneer.

It’s been a dominating postseason for the two Ann Arbor programs.

Pioneer opened the playoffs with an 8-0 win over Plymouth Canton and then advanced to the semifinals with an 8-0 win over Hartland as the defending champions are playing at an extremely high level these days.

In Monday’s win over Hartland, Lillian Schultz had three goals to lead top-seeded Pioneer. Grace Grabowski, Maggie Lamb, Lilian Soldan (two assists), Gabby Haudan and Klara Jones also scored for the winners. Iseul Park and Bridgett Schaeffer combined on the shutout.

Huron, seeded fourth in the tournament, opened with an 8-0 win over Dearborn Edsel Ford and knocked off Farmington 6-0 in Monday’s quarterfinal.

Second-seeded Saline faces third-seeded Novi in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Pioneer. The finals are at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at East Grand Rapids High School.
