Girls Basketball: Dreadnaughts off to strong start; host Seaholm on Tuesday

The Dexter girls’ basketball team said goodbye to 2024 with a 56-48 win over visiting Mio on Dec. 28. The Dreadnaughts led 23-20 at halftime and took a 43-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

Dexter was led by freshman Layla Blumberg who scored a game-high 28 points that included three triples and five free throws in the final quarter. Addison Chase scored eight of her 13 points in the second quarter and Addison Wylie scored in each quarter and finished with 11 points.

The win followed a tough 55-49 loss to rival Chelsea on Dec. 20.

The Bulldogs led 17-10 after the first quarter and 29-20 at halftime. Chelsea took a 43-33 lead into the final quarter.

Kendall Cabana led the Dreadnaughts with a team-high 15 points that included three triples. Wylie knocked down a pair of triples and finished with 14 points. Lizzie Lewis had eighth points and Blumberg had seven points for Dexter. Chase scored all five of her points in the fourth quarter. 

On Dec. 17, Dexter outscored Skyline 20-9 in the third quarter and put up another 20 in the fourth quarter and cruised to a 60-27 win over the Eagles in an SEC White contest. Dexter outscored Skyline 40-12 in the second half.

Chase, who didn’t play in the fourth quarter, led Dexter with 22 points including four triples. Blumberg had 11 points and Wylie added 10 in the win.

Jane Jordan led the Eagles with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

Dexter kicks off the 2025 part of its season at home on Tuesday against Birmingham Seaholm.
