Five of the MHSAA Division 1 top 10 teams in the state splashed it up at the Zeeland Invitational last month including defending state champion Pioneer.
Saline finished with 511.5 points and edged Pioneer (507.5) for first place as the two SEC rivals finished one-two in the meet. Zeeland was third with 342 points and Holland West Ottawa was fourth with 206.5 points.
Pioneer’s medley relay team of Henry Baumhover, Elijah Almeida, Oleksandr Gladunin and Brighton Han finished third with a time of 1:40.13.
In the 200 free, Charles Knoepp was second (1:45.63), Cam Kline was third (1:46.12) and Han took fifth (1:48.5) for the Pioneers.
Pioneer had three swimmers finish in the top eight in the 200 IM. Edward Zhang was second (1:52.13), Gladunin was sixth (2:07.76) and Benjamin Worden was eighth (2:10.57).
Baumhover won the 50 free for the Pioneers with a time of 21.62. Ryan Zhu was 10th in 23.67.
Almeida was second in the butterfly with a time of 55.28. Zhu was seventh (57.50), Alexander Heberlein was eighth (58.68) and Isak Woods was 10th (58.78).
Baumhover won his second race of the day when he touched first in the 100 free with a time of 46.53. Han was fourth (50.42) and Henry Colvig was ninth (52.30).
The Pioneers went one-two in the 500 freestyle. Knoepp was first with a time of 4:43.15 followed by Kline who took second in 4:48.45. Worden was eighth in 5:12.23.
The Pioneer team of Zhang, Knoepp, Kline and Baumhover took first in the 200 free relay in 1:26.79.
Gladunin was 10th in the backstroke in 58.66.
Pioneer had two swimmers place in the top four in the breaststroke with Zhang touching second (58.47) and Almeida taking fourth (1:00.72).
Pioneer’s foursome of Knoepp, Kline, Han and Zhang won the 400 free relay in 3:13.39. The team of Zhu, Woods, Henry Colvig and Almeida took seventh in 3:29.07.
