ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Skyline High School Theatre is bringing the classic story of Frankenstein to life.
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein will be performed Feb. 7-9 at Skyline High School, 2552 N. Maple Rd., in Ann Arbor. Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. They are available in advance at https://www.skylinehstheatre.org.
Mary Shelley was in her teens when she published Frankenstein in 1818. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a scientific genius, and the giant being he creates.
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, published in 2019, is an adaptation for the stage by Rona Munro. Skyline drama teacher Anne-Marie Roberts, who is directing the play, said she looked at many scripted versions of Frankenstein but was struck by Munro’s, which puts Mary Shelley at the heart of the tale.
“Having Shelley on stage literally writing the story and watching Victor Frankenstein create the Monster gives us a beautiful juxtaposition of the creator and their creation,” Roberts said.
Roberts noted that Skyline’s actors are around the same age Shelley was when she wrote Frankenstein.
“The Skyline students are creating a sort of dialogue between generations, with the students breathing life into characters crafted during Shelley’s own youth,” Roberts said.
