The Pioneer boys’ swimming and diving team splashed past Dexter 124-62 in a recent SEC dual-meet among elite swimming programs.
The Pioneers opened with a victory in the medley relay. The team of Cam Kline, Oleksandr Gladunin, Elijah Almeida and Henry Baumhover took first in 1:40.7. Pioneer’s team Dex Mercer, Benjamin Worden, Alexander Heberlein and Vaughn Boutell took second in 1:46.56.
Pioneer’s Charles Knoepp took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.14. Dexter’s Anthony Kopinski was second in 1:46.85 with Pioneer’s Brighton Han third in 1:51.05.
Pioneer swept the 200 IM with Almeida first (2:05.64), Ryan Zhu in second (2:07.24) and Gladunin in third (2:08.5). Dexter’s Graham McCarthy was fourth (2:14.07).
Dexter’s Jude Smith won the 50 free in 22.87 with Pioneer’s Kline in second (22.91) and Dexter’s Steven Merz in third (24.51).
Pioneer’s Asher Morgan won diving with 220.9 points with Dexter’s Felix Davis second (193.35) and Pioneer’s Trevon Chappell third (139.6).
In the butterfly, Baumhover took first for Pioneer in 52.60 followed by Dexter’s Owen Dauw (54.63) and Pioneer’s Alexander Heberlein (59.24).
Kline won the 100 free for Pioneer with a time of 49.5 followed by Dexter’s Kopinski (50.38) and teammate Jack Haidl (51.16).
Pioneer’s Knoepp returned to the winner’s circle with a victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:45.15. Dexter’s McCarthy was second in 5:07.97 and Pioneer’s Worden was third in 5:15.0.
Pioneer’s team of Almeida, Kline, Han and Knoepp took first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.29. Dexter’s team of Dauw, Kopinski, Haidl and Merz was second in 1:35.9.
Pioneer’s Baumhover won the backstroke in 54.82 with Dexter’s Jude Smith second (56.94) and Pioneer’s Gladunin was third (58.19).
In the breaststroke, Pioneer’s Almeida was first (59.76), Pioneer’s Zhu was second (1:07.72) and Dexter’s Derek Sletten third (1:09.31).
The Pioneer team of Knoepp, Han, Baumhover and Zhu won the 400 free relay in 3:21.1. Dexter’s team of Haidl, McCarthy, Kopinski and Smith touched second in 3:26.88.
