Army Battles Navy This Weekend In Dexter

The historic rivalry of Army v. Navy is coming to Dexter for our entertainment and to support a great cause.

Dexter High School’s Social Justice Club is hosting an Army v. Navy Wheelchair Basketball game this Saturday, March 3rd. Tip-off is at 2:00 pm in the high school gym.

All proceeds from the game go to the Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital through the Holder of the Year Foundation. The Peter Mortell Holder of the Year award is a tongue-in-cheek, informal award given to the top holder in college football in the United States and has become an avenue for charitable contributions.

The University of Michigan’s football holder, Garrett Moores, received the award in 2016 and designated the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor for contributions; a place U of M’s football players frequently visit and spend time with patients.

Funds raised from the Army/Navy Wheelchair Basketball game will used for a number of services at the VA – Psychiatric Services, Women Veterans Program, Mental Health, the Holiday Fund, Health Care Services for Homeless Vets, and many more.

The fun afternoon will include the DHS Dance Team performing at halftime. The Mott Pediatric Wheelchair Basketball Team, UMAIZE, will also be dazzling the crowd with their skills. Garrett Moores himself will also be in attendance rooting the teams on.
