Boys Basketball: Dexter beats Pioneer with three-quarter court shot (see video)

On Senior Night it was only fitting that a senior made one of the longest field goals in school history. Tied at 53-53, visiting Pioneer fired a three-pointer in the final seconds to try and win the ballgame and avoid overtime. The ball clanked off the rim and Dexter senior Brady Rosen grabbed the rebound and launched a shot from the three-point line – yes, the OTHER three-point line.

The three-quarter length shot hit nothing but net and sent the crowd and the Dexter players into a frenzy as the shot beat the clock and the Dreadnaughts beat the talented Pioneers 56-53 in the regular-season finale for both schools.

Senior Drew Bishop led the Dreads with 17 points while Rosen added 15 including nine points in the final quarter. Zach Condron scored seven and Caden Doll had six for Dexter.

Junior Drew Bishop scored 21 to lead the Pioneers. Kasean Pryor had 13 points and Jacob Williams scored nine points.

Dexter led 15-13 after the first quarter and 31-21 at halftime. Pioneer went on a 18-5 run in the third quarter to take the lead. Dexter outscored the Pioneers 20-14 in the final quarter – including three very big points at the end.

Both teams play on Monday at Skyline High School but against very different teams. The Pioneers will face state-ranked and undefeated Skyline in the opening game of Districts at 5 p.m. Dexter will play in the second game against Pinckney.

The semifinals will be on Wednesday, March 7 with Romulus playing the Pioneer-Skyline winner at 5 p.m. and Huron playing the Pinckney-Dexter winner at 7 p.m.
The finals are at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 9.
