Boys Basketball Preview: Dexter looks to reload after last year’s success

Coach Tim Cain and the Dexter boys’ basketball team had a strong season last year as the Dreadnaughts were competitive from start to finish, finishing second in the SEC White Division and racking up a 14-7 overall record.

The Dreads lose some key players off last year’s roster but the team again looks to be competitive and improve as the season moves along. Cain, now in his fourth year leading Dexter basketball, has proven he can get the most out of the cards in his hand and has a few aces to play this season.

“Our strengths will be balance, we can’t focus on one individual,” Cain says. “We will need to shoot better. But the keys to our success will be rebounding, defense and more defense.”

Junior Marco Lucchesi and senior Caden Doll return from last year’s team.

Cain also hopes to take some of that football team success mojo and apply it to the hardwood. Top newcomers include three of Dexter’s top football players – junior Antwan Ficklen, sophomore Colin Parachek and senior Andy Durand.

Dexter opens the season on Dec. 6 at Brighton.
